SanDisk and Toshiba to launch 56 nm-made NAND flash soon.

SanDisk today announced that it expects to soon launch 56nm multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory chips with Toshiba at Toshiba"s 12" fab (Fab 3) at Yokkaichi, Nagoya, Japan. By spring 2007, SanDisk intends to ship the highest available density of single-chip MLC NAND flash memory. A company representative told TG Daily that the transition to 56 nm, 16 Gb NAND flash from teh current 70 nm, 8 Gb devices will result in commercial flash products with 50% more capacity overall.

Printable Blu-ray discs demonstrated at NAB.
TDK today demonstrated the first printable versions of Blu-ray discs at the NAB tradeshow. Two different versions were shown - Rimage showed a thermal printable BD-R, while Primera had an inkjet printable at its booth.

The availability of AMD"s next-generation CPUs - the Turion 64 X2 mobile and Socket-AM2 processors - will still follow the chip vendor"s May schedule, according to unnamed motherboard makers that have recently received this confirmation from AMD, in response to speculation, on the part of some PC makers, that the schedule had been put back to June, on insufficient utilization and capacity concerns.
