MSI's Quad Core Box: Tiny but Big Power.

We like the MSI Wind Netbox, but it still is just a basic Intel Atom machine. For those desiring (a lot) more power, MSI has the elegantly named MS-9A08. Displayed at CES hooked up to a Philips flat panel HDTV, the MS-9A08 is MSIò€™s fully embedded system that boasts impressive hardware for its form factor. The 9A08 uses an Intel GM45 + ICH9ME chipset, supporting Core 2 Extreme, Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, Celeron M (Penryn) processors, and up to 4GB DDR2. Displays connect via DVI-I or HDMI, which pair nicely with the 5.1 channel audio, making it possible HTPC solution. Six USB ports make the 9A08 accessory friendly, for example with wireless input devices and external storage. Internal storage comes in the form of either a SATA II 2.5-inch drive or a compact flash card. Thereò€™s no built-in Wi-Fi, but there is dual gigabit LAN. Most impressive of all is that this comes in a mountable box that measures 7-inches square and 1.57-inches thick. MSI would not share exact pricing, but did mention that this was more of an industrial unit for digital signage and kiosks. With specifications such as that, however, weò€™re sure that many would love to have one of these bolted next to their HDTVs or perhaps an army of them for a server farm.
