Gigabyte introduces "quad-core ready" motherboard.

Taipei (Taiwan) - While we are still waiting for the arrival of Intel"s Core micro architecture and Core 2 Duo processors, some vendors at Computex already have the next processor generation in mind. For example, Gigabyte unveiled its GA-965P-DQ6 motherboard, which, according to the manufacturer, is designed to carry Core 2 Duo processors as well as "Kentsfield," Intel"s first quad-core desktop processor. As most new motherboards shown at Computex, Gigabyte"s new "all solid capacitor" board is based on Intel"s P965 chipset that will make its grand entrance with Core 2 Duo processor that are expected to debut at the end of July. The new product aims to attract the attention of gamers as it promises several performance tuning tools, such as Easy Tune5 which allows the user to customize a system according to the individual preferences. Differentiation becomes more important in the increasingly competitive motherboard arena, which means not only more proprietary features but more - and not always clear - marketing phrases. In Gigabyte"s case that is "6-quad," which describes *"Quad Bios:" A total of four different Bios settings is provided via the driver CD, *"Quad Cooling:" Combines Gigabyte"s "Crazy Cool" and "Silent-Pipe" *cooling for the CPU, the MOSFET modules, the northbridge and southbridge, *"Quad e-SATA2:" Four sets of external SATA ports, *"Quad Triple-Phase:" 12 Power Phases to deliver steadier power and immediate current support for the CPU, *"Quad-Core Ready:" Support for Kentsfield processors, *and "Quad DDR:" Slots for four DDR2-800 memory modules. Other features of the ATX motherboard include a Marvell LAN controller, 2 X16 PCIe interfaces, one x1 slot, four PCI ports, eight SATA connectors, as well as a set of UDMA ATA,IEEE1394, USB 2.0 interfaces. Gigabyte said that the board will be available in June through its regular distribution channels. Pricing was not announced. CES 2007: Motorola, Sprint-Nextel to bring Wimax to Chicago.
Las Vegas (NV) - Motorola said that it has been chosen by Sprint-Nextel to build a Wimax infrastructure for Chicago, IL. Motorola said that it will deploy at least 1000 sites in the Chicagoland area, providing a broadband coverage that is planned to complement Sprint"s existing EV-DO network.

There are so many power supply units on display at Computex. Most manufacturers focus on showcasing the big stuff, meaning 1,000-W PSUs and up. Most companies offer units that provide up to 1,200 W, and some are already talking about 1,500 W. Those ones, however, donò€™t fit into the compact standard ATX dimensions of 163x150x85 mm. FPSò€™s new and modular 1,200-W model Everest Pro 1200/1250 is slightly larger: 180x150x85 mm. It has all the features youò€™d expect from a high-end PSU: Active PFC, a 135-mm fan, ATX12V 2.2 compliancy and EPS12V 2.92 compliancy, a modular cabling design, multiple 12-V rails and support for both Crossfire and SLI multi-graphics setup. However, FSPò€™s product presentation was somewhat misleading, as the firm put the 80plus Gold logo right above this new PSU. One last word on the packaging, which we arenò€™t sure it truly adds value: All Everest Pro 1200 PSUs are shipped in a small aluminum case. At least it looks really nice.

They are referring to Digital Light Processing, something Texas Instruments invented in 1987 and which they are today putting to use in HD TV"s and projectors across the industry.
