Hemel-Hempstead (UK) -By now we are used to 16:10 LCDs and strange resolutions such as 1280x800, 1680x1050 and 1920x1080.However, half a year we first spotted the first serious attempts to transition to a 16:9 format at CES 2008, BenQ is introducing five 16:9 displays.
The new displays will be offered in 21.5" (2200 sequence number) and 24" (2400 sequence number) sizes, both offering a native 1920x1080p resolution, which matches the resolution offered by todayð€™s 1080p TVs. BenQ will offer these sizes in the regular "E"-series as well as its Multimedia "M"-series, which includes an integrated 2.0 megapixel webcam.
Especially noteworthy are the M2200HD and E2200HD, which is the first 16:9 display that provides 1080p resolution on a screen that is smaller than 24". The displays include HDMI and DVI interfaces, an analog D-SUB15 port and a headphone jack. The contrast ratio is 1000:1, the response time is 2 ms (GTG) and the power consumption tops out at 45 watts.
We were told that the displays will be available in late Q3 2008 in select markets in Asia and Europe. The U.S. will follow as soon as enough volume is available, which could be the case in Q4. Pricing has not been announced.
